I am sincerely honored to have been selected as a recipient of the 秀色直播Foundation Charles E. Gavin III Family Scholarship. I am currently a 4th year student studying Materials Science and Engineering with a Polymer and Fiber Materials concentration at Georgia Institute of Technology. This scholarship means so much to me because it will alleviate the stresses of paying for tuition and fees, allowing me to concentrate on completing my last year of studies. Upon graduation, I plan to pursue a career in the medical field as it pertains to medical devices. I hope to work for a company where I can invent and innovate products and services that can improve and prolong lives. This scholarship is allowing me to get one step closer to achieving this goal.
I am a 3rd year Materials Science and Engineering student with a concentration in Polymer and Fiber materials. I am currently enrolled at Georgia Tech, where I am also a member of the varsity swim team. Growing up in Dalton, Ga, I have always had a close personal connection to the textile industry. Both of my parents have worked in carpet mills in one form or another my entire life and I often found myself tagging along for random tasks along the carpet production line. Whether it was the design, the making of samples, application of backing, or looking for defects, I always liked these processes because they constantly presented minor problems to be solved and efficiencies to optimize. How could you create a certain pattern given the limitations of the tufting machine? How could you reduce the weight of yarn in a square foot? What material should be chosen to weave the actual carpet? All these questions were things that were tossed around the dinner table at night, and they began to spark my interest in the engineering process. When deciding what school I wanted to go to, GT鈥檚 MSE program excited me because it seemed to fit right into framework of questions I had been asking my whole life. Over the last two years here, I have not only gained a much deeper understanding for the intricacies of polymer and fiber engineering, but I have also developed a much better appreciation for the problem-solving approach that we must strive to master as engineers. This scholarship means the world to me because it will help alleviate the financial burden of higher education, and allow me to continue to fully pursue my goals both athletically and academically here at GT. In addition to this, the networking opportunities provided within the framework of the 秀色直播will truly be invaluable in helping me to connect with companies that share my desire to constantly improve within their field. I would like to thank the Gavin family for their generosity in giving this scholarship, and the 秀色直播for the dedication of their member corporations to continuing the education of Polymer and Fiber science in the US.
