Measuring and marketing concepts of comfort and moisture management have always been a challenge. New technologies only make things more complicated! But standardized testing can help untangle the situation. Ðãɫֱ²¥Committee RA114 Moisture Management has several open projects in this area. A draft method is being finalized for evaluation of liquid moisture management by visual analysis. Revisions to an existing method for evaluation by electrical conductivity are also under development. Input on this and other work is always welcome.

Multifiber fabrics (MFF) are an important tool in numerous colorfastness test methods, but their use isn’t always fully understood. Ðãɫֱ²¥Committee RA59 Fibrous Test Materials is creating a new monograph to help users choose and use the right MFF for every purpose. If you have input or advice on the proper application of MFF, attend the next meeting or the committee chair to participate.

Research committees address everything from fibers to finishes. For new projects that don’t yet have a home, there is a committee devoted to emerging issues. Members are currently considering issues around reusable menstrual products and biodegradability. Visit the Ðãɫֱ²¥website to see what’s in process and attend the upcoming meeting to suggest new projects.
Ðãɫֱ²¥research committees are a great place to learn AND to share your expertise. Consider volunteering to lead a task group, chair a committee, or take notes as secretary. All provide great leadership experience for you and ensure standards work continues to benefit the whole industry and the consumers who use textile products. To volunteer or learn more about the available roles, contact Ðãɫֱ²¥Technical Director Erika Simmons at simmonse@aatcc.org.
