Join us for an inspiring evening with Dereck Whittenburg, former NC State basketball standout and member of the legendary 1983 NCAA National Championship team led by Coach Jim Valvano. Named Game MVP of the historic title victory, Whittenburg鈥檚 story is a powerful testament to perseverance, leadership, and learning from both triumph and adversity.

Drafted into the NBA in 1983, Whittenburg has since built an accomplished career spanning more than 25 years in collegiate coaching, along with roles as an ESPN analyst and NBA scout. He currently serves at NC State as Associate Athletic Director for Community Relations and Student Support and Director of Basketball Operations, and is actively involved with The V Foundation and the Jim Valvano Foundation for Cancer Research.

In his talk, Success & Failure, Whittenburg shares lessons drawn from championship moments, career challenges, and life beyond the court, offering insights that resonate far beyond sports.

Copies of Dereck鈥檚 book, The Shot Heard Around the World: My Journey from the Playground to the White House, will be available for purchase at the event. The book chronicles his remarkable journey and delivers a compelling message of resilience, determination, and success.
